Honour and I would have to create our world, live by our own rules. My family wasn't ready for her just yet. I didn't know if they ever would be.

About This Quote

In the novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, a boy named Johnny, who has been living in an orphanage for most of his life, is forced to leave because of his non-conformist ways. He has a romantic relationship with a girl named Dawn and they have a child together. Johnny and Dawn’s child is named Joey and he is one of the main characters of the book.

The child lives with his mother and Dawn because Johnny attempts to leave his life as an outsider behind. However, when Dawn dies, Joey goes back to live with Johnny because he needs his father’s love and guidance. In the end, however, Joey decides that he does not need his father as much as he thought he did and leaves him.

This book suggests that men should be able to make their own choices about who they want to be with and how they should live their lives.
